Project Brief:
In April 2013 after a successful tender process working with Diploma Construction, CIMC MBS was awarded the supply of V systems modules to be utilised in the construction of a three storey Fly In - Fly Out hotel style accommodation buildings for the housing of their permanent work force.
the Modules were sucessfully delivered and installed onsite in late 2013, early 2014. This delivery was the first V system units brought into Australia.
Challenges and Resolutions:
The Wickham Lodge was made up of two 3-storey buildings in an L shape configration. The project was to be the most complex configuration of modules to have been designed and delivered anywhere in the world. 166 modules were manufactured, consisting of over 60 different rooms, communications rooms, balconies, staircases, lifts and universal access room to name a few. Each module had to be programed into the production facility in sequence so that they could be delivered in the correct order ofr assembly.
Design Features:
The modules had to be specifically designed to meet not only the Australian Standards, but also the Rio Tinto standards that were required to be followed under the contract.
The project saw a first for our V System with the introduction of a facade system installed in the factory. Utilising aluminium panels we fabricated panels to mimic the Architects requirements. Feature panels were also installed in the factory to the balcony ends to provide shading and privacy over the windows. Another first saw the V System modules being utilised in a cyclonic area.
Logistically the modules were delivered directly to site where onsite contractor installed utilising the CIMC MBS's patented V System connection plates and spigots. This system enabled the buildings to be cyclone protected during assembly, something that was put to the test during construction. The module came through this with no damage.
Continued Success:
CIMC MBS see this project as a corner stone project, as it showcases the complexity and versatility of buildings that CIMC MBS can produce and deliver.
